Gender-Based Violence and Primary Healthcare in Albania: Key Findings and Recommendations

The Gender Alliance for Development Center (GADC), in partnership with Together for Life (TfL) and the Institute of Romani Culture in Albania (IRCA), is pleased to share this English-language extract of the study “Evaluating the Challenges and Institutional Responses to Gender-Based Violence in Primary Healthcare Services in Albania,” developed within the framework of the EU-funded AGORA project.

The publication presents the main findings, conclusions, and recommendations emerging from research conducted with healthcare professionals, institutional stakeholders, and members of the general public across six municipalities in Albania. It examines the role of primary healthcare services in identifying, reporting, and responding to cases of gender-based violence, while highlighting existing challenges related to professional capacities, reporting mechanisms, institutional coordination, and public trust.

The infographics below summarize the most important findings from the study and provide an accessible overview of the perceptions, experiences, and recommendations shared by both healthcare professionals and citizens. Together, they offer valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare institutions, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders working to strengthen the response to gender-based violence in Albania.
