High-Level Roundtable – Empowering Women in Politics: Challenges, Barriers & Solutions for Equal Access to Political Financing and Gender-Based Violence in Politics

On 17 December 2024, we organized the roundtable discussion: Empowering Women in Politics: Challenges, Barriers & Solutions for Equal Access to Political Financing and Gender-Based Violence in Politics. Members of Parliament, representatives of international and local organizations, as well as independent institutions shared their viewpoints and commitments to supporting women’s participation in decision making.

The study conducted by GADC and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy brought important findings.

Some results based on the responses to the online questionnaire on violence against women in politics:

• 72.5% of women and 68.6% of men state that women in politics face various forms of violence.
• 61% of women and 49% of men state that political parties do not have mechanisms or that they are not sure whether political forces have mechanisms in place to address and prevent violence against women in politics.
• Only 11.4% of men and 4.7% of women state that government and law enforcement bodies in general are very effective in addressing violence against women.
• Unanimously (90% of women and 94% of men) think that monitoring violence against women in politics is very important.
• 20% of women and 40% of men state that they have experienced violence in political activities and only 36.7% of women have reported this violence, in contrast to 63.3% of men.
