The Social Contract 2023: Focus group with citizens of Administrative Units no. 7 and no. 8, Tirana

2.3.2023 The Gender Alliance for Development Center is continuing the meetings with residents of the Municipality of Tirana in the framework of POP - Juxtaposing Political Offers and the drafting of the Social Contract 2023 for the local elections of May 14, 2023.

On March 2, 2023, we discussed together with residents of Administrative Unit No. 7 and Administrative Unit No. 8 about priorities and needs of the community in the areas where they live, priorities which will be presented to the mayor candidates during the month of April 2023 in the Tirana Public Forum.

But what do the citizens say and what are some of their concerns:

  • Unit no. 7: There is a need to turn on the boilers system in schools, because even though the heating system is installed, it is not used or is rarely used.
  • Unit 7: Need for a residential center for women survivors of domestic violence.
  • Unit 7: The need for more waste bins, especially on “Naim Frasheri” Street.
  • Unit no. 8: Parking difficulties, especially on “Gjon Buzuku” street.
  • Unit no. 8: From the “9-katëshet” and up to Selvia, as well as on “5 Maji” street, there are no genuine sidewalks and citizens (especially mothers with baby carriages and people with disabilities) have difficulty moving.
  • Unit no. 8: The sewer system on “5 Maji” street near the “Tirana Jonë” school needs intervention.
  • Unit 8: Residents complain about not receiving answers to their requests from the municipality.
  • In both units there is a demand for drinking water quality and 24-hour supply.
