Roundtable Discussion “The Earthquake and Recovery” – One year after the Donors’ Conference

February 22, 2021. The "Gender Alliance for Development" Center (GADC) organized a Roundtable Discussion on the topic: "The recovery of families affected by the earthquake of November 26, 2019", which left behind 51 victims, hundreds of injured and thousands of homeless people.

This activity is held in the framework of the project "Strengthen the capacities of local governments and monitor their actions and the international aid toward recovery of families after the earthquake", which is carried out with the support of the Swedish Government through the organization "Albanian Women’s Empowerment Network-AWEN.” At this roundtable, we discussed GADC’s work on monitoring the reconstruction process after the earthquake in several pilot administrative units in the Durrës Municipality, as well as the socio-economic situation of the citizens in the Sukth and Katund i Ri administrative units. It was also discussed about grants, projects and loans collected for the reconstruction of Albania after the November 26 earthquake, at the "Together for Albania" Donors' Conference organized in Brussels on February 17, 2020.

The recovery of families affected by the earthquake one year after the donors' conference was discussed by various actors, including representatives of the Government and local level institutions, residents of the Sukth and Katund i Ri administrative units, public institutions such as the Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Civil Emergencies, donors operating in Albania and civil society organizations.

The discussion also focused on recommendations on how to contribute to managing such natural disasters in the future thanks to the implementation of reconstruction programs aimed at the rapid recovery of families affected by the earthquake.
