Peaceful rally on May 1, 2024

The Union of Albanian Trade Unions and the Coalition for Labor Rights, composed of civil society organizations and trade unions, which includes the Gender Alliance for Development Center, organized a peaceful rally at the "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard in front of the Prime Minister's Building on May 1, 2024. Under the slogan "DIGNITY FOR WORKERS!", this rally aimed to raise awareness among workers, to lobby their voice to be heard, and to influence changes in policies and laws for the protection of workers' rights.

Workers from different sectors, such as the garment and footwear production sector, healthcare, education, cleaning, call center, oil, public services, transportation, etc., shared their personal stories, messages and demands for the relevant institutions in this day of commemoration of the struggles and challenges faced by workers in the workplace. It was also discussed about the increase in labor force emigration, which has created difficulties for certain labor sectors.

In this rally, the Union of Albanian Trade Unions and the Coalition for Labor Rights addressed a public call to the Prime Minister and the country's institutions to take immediate measures to address workers' concerns and to guarantee the protection of their labor rights. The call included demands for the Albanian government to calculate and set the living minimum, to ensure safe and healthy working conditions, to reform labor institutions in Albania, as well as build a fair work environment and respect workers' and trade unions' rights.

This public call was made in response to the needs and challenges faced by workers in Albania, in line with the mission of promoting and supporting labor rights and decent work.
