Meeting with Women Workers in Garment and Footwear Factories in Korça

The Gender Alliance for Development Center held a meeting with women workers in the garment and footwear manufacturing sector in the city of Korça on November 23, 2023. The topic was "Protecting women’s rights in the labor market," and Mrs. Eriona Pambuku served as moderator. 20 women and girls from several different factories were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, a detailed presentation was made about job contracts for women employed in garment and footwear factories, including individual, collective, fixed-term and indefinite contracts. The discussions focused on workplace dangers and rights, including cases of illness, provisions for pregnant women, employment relationship, night work, motherhood, childcare responsibilities, parental leave, working hours, work shifts, weekly working hours and holidays. The relationship between employer and employee in cases of contract termination was also discussed.

In addition, an important part of the discussions focused on overtime working hours and the payment for these hours, as well as the conduct of both parties, employers and employees, in cases of contract termination. The meeting highlighted crucial issues that women should understand and carefully address in the workplace, including possible causes of stress in the work environment.
