Meeting with Women Workers in a Garment and Footwear Factory in Elbasan

On 22 November 2023, the Gender Alliance for Development Center organized a meeting in Elbasan with women workers in the garment and footwear production sector. Moderated by Mrs. Dhoksa Gjoka, the meeting focused on the protection of women’s rights in the labor market. The participants, 38 women and girls from Albatekst factory, received information on the Labor Code, job contracts, and the rights of pregnant women and those with children. The discussions also delved into other issues such as workplace safety, working at night, and care for women during pregnancy.

In addition, issues such as discrimination and stress in the workplace were addressed, and the toll-free number as a mechanism for reporting rights violations was presented. The participating women and girls showed great interest and stated that the information received was useful to better understand the rights and work conditions in their sector. The meeting recalled the importance of awareness raising and education regarding women’s rights in the labor market, bringing to attention the main issues that affect the quality of life and work for women in this industry.
