Peaceful rally by the Coalition for Labor Rights on May 1
The Coalition for Labour Rights, which consists of unions and civil society organizations, including the Gender Alliance for Development Center, organized a peaceful rally at the “Murat Toptani” pedestrian zone on May 1, 2023, as part of its mission to promote and support labour rights, social dialogue and decent work across all sectors of the economy in Albania.
The peaceful rally was held under the slogan: "Worker: Wake up! Solidarize! Demand your Rights!" and aimed to awaken workers’ civic consciousness, to lobby for their voice to be heard and for policy and legislation changes that help safeguard workers’ rights.
The Coalition was present at this rally to listen to and support the workers, who shared their personal stories, messages and demands addressed to the relevant institutions in this commemoration day for the struggles and challenges that workers/employees have faced in the workplace throughout the years.
Furthermore, the Coalition for Labour Rights addressed a public call to the country’s Prime Minister, Mr. Edi Rama, demanding the he take urgent steps to address workers’ concerns and to ensure the protection of their rights in the workplace. The call included several demands, such as establishing a minimum living wage, ensuring workplace safety and health, reforming labour institutions in Albania, as well as creating a decent work environment and respecting the rights of workers and unions.
The Coalition made this public call in response to the needs and challenges faced by Albanian employees, and as part of its mission to promote and support labour rights and decent work in all sectors of the economy.
