Inauguration of the goat farm in Pukë

The Gender Alliance for Development Center inaugurated today the goat farm for the women of Luf village, Pukë municipality, in the framework of the latest challenging project: "Empowering Women in Albania to Provide Equal Chances". This project is dedicated to the empowerment of women in Pukë and is funded by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For the implementation of this project, GADC is working in partnership with the Slovenian organization "Forum for Equal Development" (Forum za enakopraven razvoj – FER).

The opening ceremony of the farm was attended by: the Slovenian Ambassador to Albania, Mrs. Lea Stančič; the Mayor of Pukë, Mr. Gjon Gjonaj; Mrs. Ana Kalin and Mrs. Darja Sekula from the organization "Forum for equal opportunities" (Forum za enakopraven razvoj - FER); Mrs. Mirela Arqimandriti, executive director of the Gender Alliance for Development Center; officials of the Pukë Municipality, various personalities from institutions in Pukë, men and women from the Luf and Qerret Administrative Units, representatives of civil society, business, media, etc.

The farm was donated to a group of women and the main goal is to grow the farm from 20 goats to 100 goats in the first year of its life and to double the number in the second year. This farm will serve to empower the participating women and increase cooperation among them. The farm will be sustainable and will serve a large number of women with the aim of replication in other villages. This project became a reality thanks to the help and support of the Pukë municipality and especially its Mayor.
