Round Table - “Women rights in the labor market”
In the framework of the International Women Day, on 08 March 2012, the European Union Information Centre in Vlora, in cooperation with the Gender Alliance for Development Center (GADC), Tiranë organized the Round table on “Women rights in the labor market” targeting 21 business and unemployed women, students and representatives of the NGO-s operating in Vlora city.
This activity aimed to empower women in the labor market through provision of knowledge on the Albanian and EU labour law provisions, with focus on special rights of women at work and to inform them on available instruments for the protection of their rights. The participants also included students, who from the EU integration prospective were introduced with accurate information on employment opportunities abroad.The moderator, Ms Besjana Roshi, Head of EUIC Vlora, welcomed the participants and shared with them the objectives of this round table. Ms. Anila Shqypi, Project Manager, Gender Alliance for Development Center, introduced an overview of the Albanian and EU Legal framework regarding the labor and employment. She focused her presentation on the national and international legal instruments that protect the rights of women in the labor market, such as the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, CEDAW Convention Against all Forms of Discrimination against Women and Labor legislation as part of the legal system in Albania. Ms. Shqypi presented to the participants the employer's obligations and rights of employees reflected in an employment contract in compliance with the Albanian legislation. She also brought to their attention the specifics of women rights in the labor market introduced in the Albanian legislation, according the EU Acquis.
